Love Poem for the Purported End of the World

Kimberly Kruge

I don't have the heart to tell you
     that this morning

in your absentmindedness
you left both front doors open

a sight so unholy when I
hours later    came home to see it

their dangling   the black satin
     sashes of the building

it almost knocked the wind out of me
in elation   the dust & the flies

could have come for us
    the thief could have

returned for what
the thief didn't get last time

but  why worry you with what
    doesn't need worrying

sometimes no ill enters
      the negative space &

this is how the future
     has always been made
