[My grandmother is dying]

Mia Ayumi Malhotra

My grandmother is dying I think then stop because as I step closer to the wall what fills my vision are large kidney shaped blotches like red blood cells and black swirls which pull down the canvas like a window shade the tumors have spread between her lungs they say into her lymphatic system this morning she woke saying something feels funny in my head none of us believe this possible for a moment you think you can step away from the painting its yellows its greens its dramatic fingers reaching from the organs that bleed in every direction but this is not how the space is designed you are meant to face it head on there is no turning back the walls you see are white and angled though at first you believe you can move to the next piece there is no escaping this odd architecture you can turn and turn but the center is always there is no turning back.
